Atari Asteroids is the official remake of the classic shooter game released by Atari in 1979, and was an early hit of the golden age of arcade games. The objective of the game is to fly through an asteroid field and shoot the asteroids and flying saucers. Large asteroids that have been hit will split in two, and form additional obstacles to dodge. To dodge items, the player can rotate the ship and hit the thrusters to glide forward. When unable to dodge an approaching threat, the player can also send their spaceship into hyperspace. It will then appear in a randomly selected location elsewhere in the field. This is a risky move, however, since the ship might reappear right in front of another asteroid. If the ship reappears on top of another asteroid, it’ll explode.
